Veterans Aged 65 in the UK May Be Recalled to Service

The UK Ministry of Defense plans to raise the age limit for retired soldiers and reservists to be recalled to service. According to the Telegraph, veterans aged 65 will be subject to mobilization under new powers aimed at preparing the armed forces for war.

These measures are part of a new bill on the Armed Forces that will be presented in Parliament. The changes will facilitate the mobilization of tens of thousands of former service members.

The army has been reduced to its smallest size in 200 years, currently comprising just over 70,000 fully trained soldiers ready for deployment on the front lines. According to existing regulations, retired soldiers in the reserve are subject to call-up in the event of a 'national emergency, public crisis, or an attack on the UK.' However, under the new changes, this threshold will be lowered to a level of 'military readiness,' which is already the threshold for reservists recently discharged from the armed forces.

These measures are being implemented amid concerns that the UK may become embroiled in a full-scale war with Russia in the coming years. In recent months, defense and security officials have repeatedly warned about the possibility of widespread conflict.
