The Situation Raises Serious Concerns: No News from Our Countrymen Since Friday, Sinanyan
The Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Zareh Sinanyan, has addressed the issues faced by Armenians living in Iran in the context of the protests occurring there, stating that they have had no news since Friday and are currently unable to establish contact with representatives of the Armenian community in Iran. He emphasized that the situation is causing serious concern.
“When a similar incident occurred during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, we mobilized resources at the border in Meghri and were able to start receiving information through our compatriots crossing the border. We will probably have to start doing the same today in Meghri; otherwise, naturally, the information blackout greatly concerns us. We don’t have enough information to talk about evacuation,” he said.
According to Zareh Sinanyan, in 2023, when the latest round of the Hamas-Israel confrontation began, many Armenians were evacuated from Israel during the first 10 days of military operations. “As soon as we have relevant information regarding our compatriots in Iran that allows us to make this statement to the Government, we will certainly do so. But at this moment, we are very concerned because everything has escalated since Friday,” he noted.
