New Details Emerge on the Assault of a Bus Driver
New details have emerged today regarding the assault on the driver of bus number 16 on Tamantsiner Street in Yerevan.
Gegham Asatryan, the spokesperson for "Yerevan Bus" LLC, presented the case, noting that what he is recounting has been recorded by the bus's cameras. "The incident occurred around 10 AM. When the driver reached the final stop, there were several passengers on the bus. Everyone got off, but the driver thought that everyone had exited. He parked the bus and went to have some food, only to later notice that one passenger remained on board. The passenger got off the bus, and according to our driver, he mentioned a direction and asked if the bus was going to a specific place, which, at that moment, was actually in the opposite direction. When the driver said that he had already reached the final stop and that the passenger likely boarded by mistake, the passenger hit the driver. The driver fell and his head hit the ice. The driver got back up and tried to defend himself, but was assaulted further. The driver sustained injuries to his face, hand, and leg. There was a visible injury on the leg, and the hand was X-rayed. He also experienced dizziness, and we advised him to inform the doctors in detail, as we suspect that he might have suffered a concussion. There was significant damage to his face. An ambulance took him to the hospital. He also reported the incident to the police.
I, along with our relevant employees from the safe traffic service, went to the scene, and later our other staff members were also with the driver at the hospital. The doctors recommended that he stay for two days, but the driver refused and said he’d prefer to rest at home," Asatryan explained.
He added that after the incident, the passenger left, while bystanders assisted the injured driver. He also noted that the recording shows the passenger appears to have been smoking on the bus, which is another violation of regulations.
