Haik Martirosyan Defeats World’s Highest Rated Chess Player
Grandmaster Haik Martirosyan has defeated the world's highest-rated chess player Magnus Carlsen in the 14th round of the World Rapid Chess Championship. This information has been reported by the Chess Federation.
As previously mentioned, Armenian chess players have been among the leaders since the first game day of the 2025 World Rapid Chess Championship. In the men’s championship, Haik Martirosyan scored 9 points out of a possible 13 and is tied for the 10th to 20th positions. In the next round, Haik will compete against Magnus Carlsen.
Aram Hakobyan has 8.5 points, and Robert Hovhannisyan has 8 points. In the women’s championship, Elina Danielyan has 7 points out of 10 possible and is sharing the 7th to 17th positions. The men's championship will be held over 19 rounds, while the women's championship will take place over 15 rounds.
