Armenian Tennis Player to Compensate Russian Tennis Federation

The Armenian tennis player Elina Avanesyan is obliged to compensate the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) for damages incurred due to her breach of a sports contract. This decision was made by the National Center for Sports Arbitration (NCAS), which announced the ruling through its press service.

"The tennis player will be required to compensate RTF for the damages established by NCAS, including compensation from tennis earnings specified in the sports contract and other expenses incurred by RTF," the statement said.

In 2022, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) suspended the membership of the Russian and Belarusian Tennis Federations. Athletes from these countries are only allowed to compete in WTA and ATP tournaments under a neutral status. Russian and Belarusian female tennis players have also been barred from participating in the Billie Jean King Cup and the Davis Cup.

It is worth noting that Elina Avanesyan is 21 years old and was born in Pyatigorsk. She obtained Armenian citizenship in August 2024.
