Ukraine Begins Preparations for Elections
The speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, has announced the establishment of a special working group to draft a bill for holding elections after the active phase of the war. The parliament speaker made this announcement during a ceremony dedicated to the Day of the Diplomatic Service, according to local media reports.
“Today I signed a decree regarding the elections and created a working group to develop this bill. It is headed by the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Kornienko, who is present here,” he said.
Stefanchuk emphasized that this is the first time Ukraine is drafting electoral legislation considering the consequences of the war, and there is practically no similar experience in the world.
According to him, it is still difficult to address the voting of millions of Ukrainians abroad. He also highlighted that Ukraine is facing another challenge: whether or not to hold elections in “temporarily occupied territories,” which also needs to be resolved.
