Trump Calls Back US Diplomats from Around 30 Countries, Including Armenia

The administration of United States President Donald Trump has decided to recall ambassadors and senior diplomats conducting diplomatic missions in around 30 countries worldwide. Among these ambassadors is Christina Quinn, the United States Ambassador to Armenia.

This was reported by the Associated Press news agency. Two officials working at the State Department, who wished to remain anonymous, told AP that last week the heads of diplomatic missions from 29 countries were informed that their assignments would end in January 2026. All of these diplomats were appointed during the administration of former President Joe Biden.

The news agency notes that with this move, Trump aims to have diplomats abroad who fully support his political priorities known by the slogan "America First".

AP's sources also indicated that these diplomats may take on other diplomatic roles after returning to Washington if they express such a desire.

The State Department declined to comment on the news, stating only that changes are part of a normal process in any administration. They noted that the ambassador is the "personal representative of the president, and therefore the president has the right to ensure that individuals in those countries are advancing the 'America First' policy agenda."

The largest number of diplomatic changes will occur in Africa, specifically in the following countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, and Uganda. In Asia, diplomatic changes will take place in six countries: Fiji, Laos, the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

According to the Associated Press, changes will also occur in Europe in Armenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Slovakia, as well as in the Middle East in Algeria and Egypt. Additional changes will be made in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, and Suriname.

Christina Quinn arrived in Yerevan as the US ambassador to Armenia on February 16, 2023. She is the 10th US ambassador to Armenia. Before her arrival in Armenia, Ambassador Quinn served as the Chargé d'Affaires in Ukraine from 2020 to 2022.
