Political Decisions on Railway Reopening Exist, Says Pashinyan
The fact that trains from Russia are now traveling to Armenia via Azerbaijan is indeed a historic event. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at an informal CIS summit held today in St. Petersburg.
“As I already mentioned, new opportunities are emerging,” he noted. “The agenda for restoring some other sections of our railway has also matured. I mean, in particular, the sections of Ijevan, Yeraskh, and Akhuryan. These are railways that link Armenia with Azerbaijan and Turkey. Quite active political processes are underway.
I cannot say that there are currently political decisions regarding the reopening of these railways, but I believe that the situation has reached a point where it is necessary to carry out preparatory work,” Pashinyan added.
