Prosecutor's Office Appeals to Russia for Extradition of Former Chief Prosecutor of Armenia
The Republic of Armenia has officially appealed to Russia for the extradition of former Chief Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan to the competent authorities of Armenia.
According to the Prosecutor's Office of Armenia, "On December 17, the Armenian Prosecutor's Office sent a request to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation for the extradition of Gevorg Kostanyan to the competent authorities of Armenia for the purposes of criminal prosecution," they informed NEWS.am.
It should be noted that this is not Armenia's first appeal to Russia; a request was previously submitted and denied.
On November 18 of this year, during a session of the National Assembly, the Armenian Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan stated that the Prosecutor's Office would be appealing to Russia for the extradition of former Chief Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan and former head of the investigative group Vahagn Harutyunyan in relation to the March 1 case.
"We do not have consent from the Russian side for their extradition, although the Prosecutor's Office will again send a request to the Russian Federation, asking to reconsider the previously denied extradition," she said, adding that both Kostanyan and Harutyunyan are currently in Russia.
Both individuals are wanted.
