There Is No Rule of Law in the EU, Only Brussels Dictatorship - Viktor Orban

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that a written vote taking place at noon would deliver irreparable damage to the European Union.

“The topic of the vote is frozen Russian assets, on which EU countries have previously voted every six months and made decisions unanimously. With today’s procedure, Brussels is eliminating the requirement for unanimity with a single stroke of the pen, which is clearly illegal,” Orban noted.

He wrote that today’s decision effectively ends the rule of law in the EU, placing European leaders above their own rules. “Instead of applying EU treaties, the European Commission systematically ignores European legislation in order to continue the war in Ukraine, a war that is evidently unwinnable. All this occurs in broad daylight, less than a week before the meeting of the European Council, the most important body of the EU, where heads of state and government convene. Thus, the rule of law in the Union is replaced by bureaucratic governance. In other words, a Brussels dictatorship has been established. Hungary protests against this decision and will do everything possible to restore the rule of law,” the Hungarian Prime Minister wrote.
