Thailand’s Naval Forces Announce Military Operation Near Cambodian Border
The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) has launched a military operation near the Cambodian border, involving its navy and aircraft. The border patrol headquarters in Trat province announced the operation today on Facebook.
The operation is named "Trat Prap Porapak" ("Trat Suppresses the Enemy"). The decision comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions with Cambodia. The HTMS Thepa warship has also been dispatched to the area to conduct round-the-clock reconnaissance and patrols.
“All personnel have been brought to full combat readiness, weapons are fully operational and prepared for immediate use in case of escalation,” the ministry explained.
On November 10, Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anuthin Charnvirakul announced the suspension of the peace agreement with Cambodia, following an incident at the border where two Thai soldiers were wounded by a landmine explosion. He noted that the incident illustrates that hostilities at the border have not diminished, and that further steps toward reaching an agreement are impossible until circumstances are clarified.
