No Ceasefire: Thailand's Prime Minister Opposes Truce with Cambodia

“Thailand's position is to maintain the status quo. No ceasefire,” stated Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

On December 8, both Thailand and Cambodia blamed each other for the renewed clashes between them. Former Cambodian leader Hun Sen claimed that his country waited 24 hours for a ceasefire to be maintained before launching counteroffensive actions against Thai forces at night.

Thai military officials reported that clashes have occurred in five border provinces, and operations led by naval forces to expel Cambodian troops from Trat province will soon come to an end. They noted that Cambodia is utilizing artillery, rocket launchers, and drones to attack Thai forces.

Earlier, Thailand's Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow expressed his belief that Cambodia is not prepared for negotiations to resolve the situation at the Thailand-Cambodia border.
