Macron Threatens China with Tariffs: Details
The European Union may consider imposing tariffs on Chinese goods if Beijing fails to address the trade deficit between the EU and China, stated French President Emmanuel Macron.
"I told them that if they do not respond, we Europeans will have to take tough measures in the coming months and break off cooperation, following, for example, the United States' lead in imposing tariffs on Chinese goods," Macron said.
He noted that he has already discussed the potential imposition of such tariffs with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. At the same time, Macron emphasized that forming a united European front on this issue will be challenging, with Germany possibly opposing the step due to the significant presence of German companies in China. The French President hopes for a peaceful resolution of the disagreements.
