The Term 'Corridor' is Unacceptable to Us, Says Grigoryan
Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, has reiterated that the term 'corridor' used by Azerbaijan regarding the road passing through Armenian territory is unacceptable to Armenia. He made this statement during a panel discussion on 'Permanent Peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan: The Washington Agreement and Joint Future' at a forum taking place in Doha, which was also attended by Hikmet Hajiyev, the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan.
During the discussion, Grigoryan emphasized, "At the Washington summit, the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States signed a document where this road is referred to as TRIPP. We are talking about this terminology. And we are confident that TRIPP will open up great opportunities not only for the region but also for businesses and countries outside the region."
In the course of the discussion, Hikmet Hajiyev stated that it is important to implement the agreements reached on transport communication and connectivity between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8 in Washington. He highlighted that in this context, the term 'Zangezur Corridor' is used in Azerbaijan. Hajiyev continued, expressing hope that the only issue between the two countries would be terminology.
Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a declaration in Washington on August 8, which particularly stipulates in point 4 that: "The Republic of Armenia will work with the United States of America and mutually agreed third parties to define the framework for the implementation of the 'Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity' (TRIPP) communication program on the territory of the Republic of Armenia."
Later, the Prime Minister announced in the National Assembly that construction work on the 'Trump Route' is expected to begin in the second half of 2026. He stated, "By the end of this year, we should describe all the details on paper. In the first half of 2026, we should agree on this, and in the second half, we should start construction work. This is the plan."
