Georgian Prime Minister Hopes for Change in US Attitude Towards the Country
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, has expressed hope that the "unfair treatment" of Georgia by the United States will be replaced by a new approach.
“We hope that the attitude of the US authorities towards Georgia will change. We are, of course, patiently waiting for their position and hope that by 2024, the current absolute rigidity and unjust treatment will be replaced by new approaches,” Garibashvili stated.
It is noteworthy that last November, the US State Department announced that it was suspending its strategic partnership with Georgia due to the ruling "Georgian Dream" party's "anti-democratic actions." On December 27, 2024, the United States imposed sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and honorary president of the "Georgian Dream". These sanctions include the freezing of Ivanishvili's assets in the US, as well as prohibiting American citizens and companies from conducting business with him.
