Disgraced the Honor and Dignity of a Soldier: Preliminary Investigation Completed
The preliminary investigation into the case of forcing conscript N.G. to commit suicide has been completed by the Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
During the investigation, it was revealed that conscript N.G. did not uphold a promise given by another soldier, A.G., during his duty at the combat position from September 27 to October 11, 2024. This promise did not come from military duties but was solely based on the influence and authority of A.G., resulting in the disgrace of N.G.’s honor and dignity.
As a consequence, N.G. committed suicide by hanging on November 13, 2024. Furthermore, A.G. had demanded explanations from several conscripts during combat duty, humiliating their honor and dignity.
The preliminary investigation also found that Commander A.G. of the rifle battalion had used violence against five soldiers for disciplinary violations committed during their duty at combat positions.
A public criminal prosecution has been initiated against the conscript under Clause 2 of Part 2 of Article 522 of the Criminal Code (causing a soldier to commit suicide through negligence) and Clause 3 of Part 2 of Article 524 (insulting a soldier). Additionally, the rifle battalion commander has been charged under Part 5 of Article 520 (using violence or threatening to use violence against a subordinate, which negligently caused a person's death) and Clause 2 of Part 3 of Article 520 (using violence or threatening to use violence against a subordinate) with four episodes.
The criminal proceedings have been sent to the supervising prosecutor with a motion for approval and referral to the court for consideration.
