We Are in Favor of Punishing the Guilty: Torosyans on the Infant's Death at the Republican Maternity House

The Investigative Committee will do everything within its authority to uncover the truth and provide an appropriate legal assessment of the incident. This was stated today, October 11, by Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan during a conversation with reporters, addressing the high-profile case of an infant's death at the Republican Maternity House.

"I cannot comment on the case which is in the preliminary investigation stage. I believe the Investigative Committee will do everything within its powers to reveal the truth and provide an appropriate legal assessment. Of course, we are not the ones to punish; we will only advocate for the guilty to be punished to the fullest extent of the law," he said.

When asked whether he had discussed the issue with Razmik Abrahamyan, the director of the Republican Institute of Reproductive Health, Perinatology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology, the minister responded negatively. "I have not spoken and should not speak because the investigative body is the one that should clarify the facts. We simply provide our available resources – conclusions, etc., for the investigative body to reveal the whole situation," the minister added.

It is noteworthy that on September 29, Haikuh Khachatryan reported that on September 24, she sought medical assistance at the Republican Institute of Reproductive Health, Perinatology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology with a 39-week pregnancy, where she gave birth to a male child, and on the same day, the fetus died.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 130, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code (Improper performance of professional duties by medical service providers, resulting in the death of the patient due to negligence). The mother has been recognized as a victim and questioned. Forensic medical and forensic genetic examinations have been assigned regarding the incident.

However, according to the child's mother, the body of the newborn has not been sent for forensic examination, and it remains unknown where the child's remains are located.
