European Parliament Calls for Security Guarantees for Ukraine

The European Parliament has proposed in a draft resolution to provide Ukraine with security guarantees comparable to Article 5 of NATO's charter. A vote on the initiative is scheduled for today.

The authors of the resolution believe that Ukraine's security should be ensured based on the principle of collective defense, meaning that an armed attack against Ukraine would be perceived as a threat requiring a joint response from partners.

It is worth noting that Article 5 of NATO is one of the alliance's fundamental provisions. It states that an armed attack against one or more member countries is considered an attack against the entire alliance, thereby activating the collective defense mechanism.
