Everything Will Perish from Within: Zakharova on Ukraine's EU Membership Risks
The potential accession of Ukraine to the European Union may create serious internal problems for the union, stated Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to her, such a move threatens to exacerbate already existing difficulties that EU countries have been trying to overcome in recent years. Zakharova noted that this viewpoint is widely held among experts.
In her assessment, Ukraine’s accession to the union could require financial and administrative resources of such magnitude that they would become an additional burden on EU members. She mentioned that even in European countries, discussions are beginning to emerge regarding this potential burden.
Zakharova emphasized that the issue of Kyiv's membership is not only a political decision but also a process with profound economic and administrative implications that could alter the internal balance of the union.
