Georgian Citizens Living Abroad Banned from Voting in Elections

Georgian citizens living abroad will be banned from voting in the elections. This was announced during a press conference by the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

“The 2024 parliamentary elections clearly demonstrated how open and harsh the informational and political pressures can be on voters from abroad. In this regard, the risks of pressure are increasing on non-resident citizens, that is, on Georgian citizens living abroad, who are susceptible to political influence in an environment and jurisdiction that is foreign to them, where the state cannot effectively intervene to prevent such pressure,” he said.
