Russia Ready to Support Signing of Peace Agreement Between Armenia and Azerbaijan: Zakharova
Russia is ready to support the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, in response to journalists' questions about the preparation of a peace agreement between the two countries, as reported by m24.ru.
“The fundamental principles proposed by Baku for the establishment of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, along with Yerevan's response to them, should serve as the basis for the start of Azerbaijani-Armenian negotiations on the peace agreement. Russia is determined to facilitate the signing of a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku,” her words are quoted on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website.
Zakharova recalled that France and the USA have rejected contacts with Russia regarding the search for solutions to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, emphasizing that the situation in the South Caucasus does not allow for pauses in negotiations.
According to her, in order not to halt the search for solutions, Igor Khovaev, the Russian co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, will continue to work as a special representative of the Russian Foreign Minister to promote the resolution of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In particular, he will monitor the preparation process of the aforementioned agreement.
