Suspension of External Aid to Syria Could Lead to Civil War
The suspension of external aid to Syria threatens to plunge the country into a full-scale civil war. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a conversation with reporters after the meeting of G7 foreign ministers held in Ontario, Canada.
"We want to ensure they have every opportunity for success. Otherwise, you will see Syria being drawn into a large-scale civil war and becoming an ungovernable territory," he noted, adding that such a development poses a threat of "a completely new war."
On November 10, US President Donald Trump met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House. President al-Sharaa stated that his visit to the United States marks the beginning of a new phase in Syria's international relations, opening up new prospects.
