The Matenadaran Acquires a Historical Unknown Canvas

The Matenadaran has been enriched with a work of an unknown author that holds both documentary and artistic value, depicting an early phase of the construction of the institution.

According to a statement from the Matenadaran's press service, materials about the founding of the institute are scarce, and the canvas is a unique example among them.

Reportedly, during the criticism of the cult of personality in the Soviet years, the artist removed the work from his home, as it depicted the statue of Joseph Stalin instead of the 'Mother Armenia' monument in the background.

The canvas is set to be displayed as part of the exhibition titled 'The Eternity of One Year - G.'
