We Must Learn to Live in a New Environment of Peace: Papoyan

In the last five years, Armenia's gross domestic product (GDP) per capita has nearly doubled, reaching around $8600. This was announced by the Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, during a joint meeting of the National Assembly's economic and financial committees while discussing the draft law on the state budget for 2026.

According to him, the indicator is expected to surpass $9000 this year, which, he claims, is a remarkable economic growth.

“Our country has also made significant qualitative progress. For instance, the Gini coefficient is the lowest in our region, meaning that income distribution is more equitable. The number of jobs has reached 805,000, with new jobs being created each year. Additionally, we are ranked 59th in the Global Innovation Index, which is also a high indicator,” noted Papoyan.

The minister also addressed the opportunities for developing foreign economic ties, mentioning that he has recently met with representatives of several major international brands. “One of them will soon enter the Armenian market,” he said without providing further details.

Papoyan added that the potential impact of border openings on investments and economic activity is also being assessed at present.

In response to MP Gegham Nazaryan's question, the minister emphasized that the behavior of the economy under wartime and peaceful conditions is different, and Armenia must learn to develop effectively in a new environment.
