New Transport Corridor Will Reduce the Price of Kazakh Wheat: Gevorg Papoyan
Armenia will soon receive its first batch of wheat from Kazakhstan via the Aktau-Baku transport corridor. This was announced by the Minister of Economy of Armenia, Gevorg Papoyan, during a joint meeting of the permanent committees of the National Assembly, emphasizing that the new route will significantly reduce transportation costs.
"We have been negotiating for a long time to have the opportunity to purchase wheat from Kazakhstan, but it was expensive—$280 or more—due to high transportation costs. With the new transport corridor, it will become much cheaper," said the minister.
Papoyan explained that previously, wheat was transported via the Aktau-Enzeli (Iran) route, which was longer and faced mountainous terrains. The Aktau-Baku route allows for the transportation of cargo through Azerbaijan by railway, providing a much shorter and more convenient path.
The minister added that after the completion of the unblocking process, the launch of the direct railway from Kazakhstan to Ijevan will also reduce costs and increase the attractiveness of communication. Papoyan also noted that Russia has already expressed its willingness to use this route: "This means that the communication from Russia to Armenia now has two directions instead of one." Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan has lifted all restrictions on the transit of cargo to Armenia, a decision welcomed by the Armenian government.
