India Issues Firm Statement Regarding the USA
India has no intention of yielding to the pressure on trade relations from the USA. This was stated by India's Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.
“We are certainly negotiating with the United States, but we are not rushing to finalize deals or doing so under duress,” he told the Hindustani Times.
According to the minister, India is focused on long-term prospects and does not make decisions under short-term pressure. “We have accepted that if a tariff is imposed on us, then it is placed on us. We are looking for ways to address this issue; we are exploring new markets. Therefore, we are resilient,” added Goyal.
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to stop buying oil from Russia. Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bencet indicated that he expects an increase in Indian purchases of American oil compared to Russian oil in the near future.
