Vardan Ghukasian and the Chief Architect of Gyumri Received Bribes: Anti-Corruption Committee
TheAnti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has revealed significant findings through extensive operational-search measures and secret investigative actions regarding the bribery of the mayor of Gyumri and the chief architect. They were allegedly involved in demanding and accepting bribes in collusion.
As part of the initiated criminal proceedings, decisions were made to launch public criminal prosecutions and arrest eight individuals, including the mayor. Specifically, it was discovered that the mayor of Gyumri and the chief architect learned that a citizen had constructed an illegal building of approximately 1500 square meters at 1/9 Garegin Nzhdeh Street, which was subject to demolition. They reached an agreement with the citizen to enter into a 'corrupt' deal, promising not to take measures towards the demolition of the constructed building, and furthermore, to create official forged documents stating that the building was already demolished and newly constructed. In return for legalizing this structure, they demanded a bribe of four million Armenian drams.
