Mother See's Response to Scandalous Recordings

Recordings of phone conversations allegedly attributed to His Grace Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan have been circulated in media outlets serving the authorities. This was reported by the Information System of the Mother See.

"In the context of the actions unleashed against the church by the authorities, including the recent apprehension of dozens of clergymen and the imprisonment of two ecclesiastics, it is already evident who is behind this latest act. During these days, the entire law enforcement and judicial system is engaged in implementing illegal anti-church directives. The dissemination of such statements attributed to the Catholicos of All Armenians aims to discredit and incite animosity towards the Church and its clergy. The violation of the confidentiality of telephone conversations is a crime in itself and is a separate issue to which we hope the law enforcement agencies will respond appropriately," the statement reads.
