Details from the Armenian Foreign Ministry Regarding Kaya Kallas' Statement
The ongoing cooperation between Armenia and the EU aimed at enhancing the country’s resilience to various challenges, including hybrid threats, is not new. This was stated by the spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ani Badalyan, in response to a question from Aysor.am regarding whether Armenia had requested assistance from the EU ahead of the elections.
“As the partnership develops, various initiatives aimed at strengthening Armenia's democratic and economic resilience are being considered, developed, and approved. For instance, programs such as ‘Resilience and Growth,’ which is currently in the active implementation phase, and the decision on the deployment of the EU mission in Armenia are a result of this approach. Cooperation to counter potential hybrid threats in order to ensure that the electoral processes align with democratic standards is not an exception, along with EU support taking into account the experience and toolkit of the EU and its member states,” said the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
She also noted that there are joint initiatives formed as a result of discussions in this direction, and the public will be appropriately informed in the event of decision-making on those initiatives.
It is noteworthy that the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Kaya Kallas, stated that Armenia would receive support similar to that provided to Moldova. “Next year, elections will be held in Armenia. Today, we will discuss how we can assist Armenia in this matter. Armenia has requested help from us to prevent external interference,” stated Kallas.
