Azerbaijan is the Shortest Path for Russia to the Persian Gulf
Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran are interested in the formation of a new North-South international transport corridor and its western route. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk in an interview with APA.
“Each of the three countries is making efforts to implement this major project within its territory. This project is truly of global importance. As we live in a changing world today, the economic center is shifting from the West to the East and South. Therefore, we in Russia view the North-South international transport corridor as an opportunity for Russian exporters to access the rapidly developing markets of the Global South. Of course, we are also interested in importing goods from those countries. Hence, we are keen that Russian exporters have more favorable competitive conditions to enter those markets,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Azerbaijan and Iran are in such a geographical position that this is the shortest route for us to the countries of Asia and Africa, to the Persian Gulf. We have planned this meeting for a long time, for about half a year, and finally this meeting took place,” the Russian Deputy Prime Minister added.
