Debate on Presidential Candidate Nomination Within Opposition Heats Up: 'Jhamanak'

The newspaper 'Jhamanak' reports that the discussion on whether to nominate a presidential candidate within the 'Hayastan' parliamentary faction has been quite intense. According to information from 'Jhamanak', some members of the faction have insisted that a candidate should be nominated to avoid criticism and to prevent being targeted for legitimizing the government's candidate by not nominating their own.

According to our sources, faction members Andranik Tevanyan and Arthur Ghazinyan have managed to persuade the opposition not to nominate a presidential candidate. What was the reason? We spoke with Mr. Tevanyan about this issue. 'Everyone participated in the discussion; it’s not like only one person expressed an opinion. As for my being 'highly active' in not nominating a candidate, I was ill with Covid; how could I have been very active in discussions? Yes, I opposed the idea of the opposition having a candidate, and it's not just me who was against it,' Tevanyan shared during our conversation.

We also learned that after the discussion, most members of the opposition faction are still not reconciled to the decision not to nominate a candidate, considering that the boycott of nomination is baseless and illogical.
