Connections Between Suspect's Family, Authorities, and Criminal Figures: Interior Ministry Spokesperson

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Narek Sargsyan, today commented on the investigation into the murder of Valodya Grigoryan that took place on September 23. He addressed the media reports suggesting that the clan of the suspects had close ties with both authorities and criminal figures.

In particular, photographs have been released showing the suspect’s cousin, Mher Akhtoyan, with MP Hayk Sargsyan from the ruling Civil Contract party and the well-known criminal figure Chagh Rustam.

Sargsyan stated that almost all proposed theories have been discussed: “We have ruled out the assumption that the murder is political; rather, it is related to interpersonal relations—a vendetta. At the same time, I want to emphasize that the operational group formed in the department has been in constant communication with the mayor’s family. Any proposed theory or possible information has been quickly clarified and explained,” said Sargsyan.
