People Await Decision on Samvel Karapetyan at Anti-Corruption Court

Hundreds of people have gathered outside the Anti-Corruption Court, waiting for a decision regarding businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan. The investigator submitted a request for the extension of his detention on October 11. His defenders informed yesterday that the request has been assigned to Judge Vahe Dolmazian.

“Samvel, we are waiting,” the crowd chants, showing their support for the businessman. Family members of Karapetyan, as well as former honorary consul of Armenia in Yekaterinburg, Narek Spartakyan, are also present outside the courthouse.

It should be recalled that a search was conducted at Samvel Karapetyan's home on June 17, after he publicly expressed support for the Armenian Apostolic Church, emphasizing that a small group, forgetting the history of the Armenian people and the church's millennia-long history, has attacked the Armenian church and its people. Karapetyan was detained for two months on June 18. On August 15, Anti-Corruption Court Judge Tigran Davtyan extended Karapetyan's detention for another two months.
