Gaza's Reconstruction Could Take Decades
The reconstruction of the Gaza Strip is estimated to require around 61 billion euros and take decades. According to Deutsche Welle, this statement was made by Jako Siliers, the special representative of the UN Development Programme's (UNDP) assistance program for the Palestinian territories.
He indicated that the timeline for reconstruction will depend on the amount of funding received. Following the establishment of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the UN has called for the immediate commencement of recovery efforts.
To begin reconstruction, it is essential to clear the rubble from buildings destroyed during hostilities and remove over 55 million tons of construction debris. "According to a rapid assessment of damage and needs conducted jointly by the UN, the European Union, and the World Bank, approximately 61 billion euros and decades are needed for Gaza's reconstruction," Siliers stated.
