Will a Criminal Case Be Initiated Against Vardan Ghukasian? - 'Hraparak'
Threatening statements were made against Vardan Ghukasian yesterday. In response to a question from the Gjumri MP Karen Sarukhanyan, Prime Minister Pashinyan threatened that Ghukasian would be thrown out of the political and public sphere. This was reported by the 'Hraparak' newspaper.
They may be planning to initiate a criminal case against him for allegedly making statements against the sovereignty of Armenia. The newspaper asked Sarukhanyan how they intend to 'throw out' the elected mayor of Gjumri.
'That should be done primarily by the people of Gjumri,' he said.
'This will be done in constitutional, legally established ways—as befits a democratic country,' he continued.
Is there a possibility that the opposition, despite being in the minority in the city council, may exert influence? 'They have it, but they can lose it at any moment.'
When asked if he intends to engage in abduction, he responded: 'This is not abduction; it is a political process.'
