Ararat Mirzoyan Highlights Expectations from Turkey
Despite all risks and fragility, there is an opportunity to open a new era of peaceful development in our region, said Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in an interview with the Indian leading media outlet 'VION', discussing the normalization process between Armenia and Turkey.
'The border between Armenia and Turkey was unilaterally closed by Turkey in the early 1990s, and the two countries do not have diplomatic relations. As you may know, special representatives have now been appointed for the normalization process, and three meetings have already taken place, where the parties have decided to move forward without any preconditions with the goal of opening the borders. To provide positive dynamics to this process, I recently accepted an invitation from the Turkish Foreign Minister and traveled to Turkey to participate in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, where I met with my counterpart,' Mirzoyan stated.
'We believe that political will and readiness to take concrete steps are necessary to achieve normalization. The Armenian side has repeatedly demonstrated both, and we expect the same from the Turkish side. Despite all risks and fragility, there is an opportunity to open a new era of peaceful development in our region, and Armenia will continue its efforts to realize this opportunity,' Mirzoyan concluded.
