Pashinyan's Illusions Prepare the Next Phase of National Catastrophe: Suren Surenyan

“TRIPP is a form, the ‘corridor’ is a threat. The issue is not about the name, but about Armenia's sovereignty and the security of Syunik,” noted political scientist Suren Surenyan.

He referenced Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement in the National Assembly the day before: “The agreed name is the TRIPP route; let Azerbaijan call it what they want. From now on, whenever they say 'Zangezur corridor', know that this is not about Armenia.”

“But the reality is quite different:
● Pashinyan is effectively acknowledging that Azerbaijan will continue to call TRIPP the 'Zangezur corridor' and will not receive any pushback on international platforms. This indicates that Armenia's state narrative is being surrendered to Baku once again.
● The contradictions are not about the name itself; it concerns Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Who will control the road, and under what status will it function? This is where the danger lies.
● In the context of the power imbalance between Armenia and Azerbaijan, this will lead to two scenarios: a) Pashinyan will once again engage in unilateral and dangerous concessions, b) differing interpretations will inevitably lead to military escalation.

This entire situation resembles déjà vu; Pashinyan made the same mistake regarding the 9th point of the November 9, 2020 statement. His arbitrary interpretations were not understood in Moscow, Baku, or other capitals. Pashinyan's politics and the resultant deadlock ultimately led to the devastation of Artsakh. Today, the same model is repeating in Syunik. Pashinyan's illusions are preparing the next phase of a national catastrophe. I repeat, this is not about a 'naming issue'; it is an existential issue of statehood. If Armenia continues to rely on a politics built on illusions, we will face the real danger of losing Syunik tomorrow,” wrote Surenyan.
