European Court Demands Report from Baku on Armenian Prisoners
The European Court of Human Rights has demanded that Azerbaijan provide a report on the conditions and health status of 23 Armenian prisoners held in Baku's jails, with a deadline set for November 4.
Siranush Sahakyan, the representative of the Armenian prisoners' interests at the European Court, informed 'Azatutyun' that back in July, the Azerbaijani side had requested the court to remove its obligation to submit the report. However, after objections from the Armenian government and representatives of the prisoners at the European Court, the court ultimately rejected Azerbaijan's request and obligated Baku to provide information about the Armenian prisoners.
The Armenian prisoners in Baku's jails have been in complete isolation for about three months, and no independent international organization has been allowed to visit them. There is no information on their conditions, health, or psychological status.
Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross last visited the Armenian prisoners in June. This international organization has now completely ceased its operations in Baku at the request of the Azerbaijani authorities.
