Gyumri Council Cancels 'Gyumri Day' Celebration

The Gyumri Council has canceled the annual 'Gyumri Day' celebration. This information was provided by the Gyumri Municipality, where the organization and conduct of the celebration were included in the agenda of the meeting. The head of the municipality's culture department, Lilit Tovmasyan, mentioned during her report that a budget allocation of 6 million drams is necessary for organizing the event.

Before the voting, Gyumri's Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan proposed to remove the issue from the agenda. “I suggest we remove this issue because I feel that the mood is not right, and it is cold outside,” explained the mayor.

The initiative to cancel the celebration was also supported by Ruben Mkhitaryan, the head of the 'My Strong Community' faction. As a result, the issue was removed from the agenda without a vote, and the 'Gyumri Day' celebration was officially canceled.

However, considering the numerous calls and concerns regarding the cancellation of 'Gyumri Day,' the Council's 'Civil Contract' faction has initiated an extraordinary meeting. This was announced by faction leader Sarik Minasyan on his Facebook page, emphasizing that Gyumri residents should not be deprived of the celebration and the opportunity to honor a day that has become a tradition.

It should be noted that the agenda of the extraordinary meeting will include the issue of organizing the 'Gyumri Day' celebration.
