The Authorities Will Not Allow the Opposition to Fill the Streets, Erdogan
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has stated that the opposition in the country is in a 'phase of disintegration' and is 'fighting for space.' In the context of clashes between the opposition and the police in Istanbul, Erdogan had previously asserted that the authorities would not permit 'the streets to be shaken.'
'To tell the truth, this opposition is in a phase of disintegration. They continue to fluctuate in the vortex they have thrown themselves into. Struggle, chaos, crisis. Yes, they have almost merged with crisis, fighting for space, and chaos,' the Turkish leader declared, with his speech broadcast on local television channels.
Erdogan has previously referred to the leader of Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party, Ozgur Ozel, as 'a subject of psychiatric science,' emphasizing that he is 'up to his ears in dirt.'
