Residents of Griboyedov Village Block the Road to Ejmiatsin

Residents of Griboyedov village have blocked the road to Ejmiatsin, demanding the improvement of the road. One of the villagers, who wished to remain anonymous, stated in an interview with SHANTNEWS am:

“We are being told to pay for the improvements ourselves, but where are we supposed to get the money from? They say, ‘You do 50 percent, and we’ll do 50 percent.’”

The participant of the protest reported that the road is completely blocked and that 90 percent of the village has come out for the demonstration.

“Soon, the women will also come, and that will be it. This is the main highway at the Griboyedov intersection. It’s our first time doing a protest; we’ve always been modest and have quietly waited for something to happen,” he said.

He noted that the head of the police department is on site, waiting for the governor. When asked about the condition of the road for which they are protesting, he responded:

“There is no road here; if you come, your car won't be able to move the next day, you'll have to take it for repairs, which will be expensive. You have to go back and forth on a tractor, through the water, it’s an awful situation that’s hard to imagine. This has been the state for three years now.”

Currently, they are waiting for officials from the governor’s office to arrive. The protest continues, but in consideration of the police, the villagers have temporarily opened the road.
