Moscow Must Consider the Independent Decisions of Armenian Authorities

Armenia has transformed from Russia's "younger brother" into a partner, the country's president stated. He added that Yerevan is committed to the agreements signed with the EAEU and the EU, despite Moscow's claims about the impossibility of integrating those unions. He expressed this in an interview with RTVI.

According to him, Yerevan wants Moscow to take into account the independent decisions of the Armenian authorities. "The Armenian government works for the residents of Armenia, for the prosperity and well-being of the republic. For this, the government itself must decide with whom and how to cooperate, trade, and build diplomatic relations," noted Khachatryan.

The president also responded to the statements of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, who had stated that Yerevan would have to choose between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union, and it would not be possible to sit on two chairs. In response to Overchuk's comments, the president emphasized that the republic maintains conditions within the EAEU framework as well as in relationships with the European Union, and so far, no issues have arisen in these areas.

It is worth noting that earlier, Nikol Pashinyan had stated that Yerevan does not intend to sever or damage its relations with Russia.
