Europe Depends on U.S. Assistance: Merz
European countries are trying to unite, with Germany, as the largest country in the region, putting in significant effort in this process. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
According to Merz, Europe has limited capabilities to conduct an independent policy. He cited the Ukraine conflict as an example, noting that European countries do not have sufficient leverage to achieve an end to the conflict on acceptable terms.
“Europe is dependent on U.S. assistance, while China, Brazil, and other countries feel free in their relations with Russia,” emphasized Merz.
The German Chancellor underscored that Europe is unable to fulfill the role it would like in order to fully protect its interests. “I must admit that we, as Europeans, cannot currently play the role that we would actually like to play,” said Merz.
