Advantages of Choosing a Digital Driver's License and Registration Certificate

At a meeting of the Armenian government, Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan presented a project on the digitization of driver's licenses and registration certificates. The minister noted that as of September 1, a regulation has come into effect allowing citizens to use a digital driver's license and digital registration certificate (vehicle passport).

“Starting from September 1, our citizens who possess driver's licenses are no longer required to carry a plastic driver's license with them. Previously, the principle of accountability was in effect; if a physical plastic driver's license was not present, drivers faced administrative liability. As of now, all drivers’ digital licenses have already been generated in the system and are accessible through the identification system,” she stated.

Sargsyan added that for the first time when receiving a document, citizens can choose between a plastic or digital version. If opting for the digital version, the state fee is halved. “If a person prefers the plastic driver's license or registration certificate, they pay a one-time fee, but later they can also use the digital version,” the minister explained.

The project also addresses several technical issues to ensure legal clarity and smooth provision of services.
