Zuckerberg on Threats from Biden Administration
Mark Zuckerberg has stated that the White House has exerted pressure on Meta since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, while the company itself is trying to maintain good relations with the new U.S. administration.
In a recent podcast with Joe Rogan, the founder of Meta revealed details about the pressure from the Biden administration on the company's management. According to Zuckerberg, the intensification of control began against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the administration persistently demanded the removal of information regarding potential side effects of the coronavirus vaccine.
Zuckerberg clarified that he did not personally participate in these negotiations, but it ultimately came to the administration compelling the company to delete the famous Leonardo DiCaprio meme about vaccinations, which Meta refused to do despite threats from the White House. Later claims by Biden that Meta was killing people by spreading misinformation about COVID-19 led to several investigations against the company.
In the interview, Meta's founder also mentioned Telegram founder Pavel Durov, noting that there remain questions regarding government persecutions, and referred to his arrest as a vivid example of how authorities interfere with the operations of online platforms. Additionally, following this interview, the company announced that it would cease support for inclusion initiatives, seemingly attempting a shift in favor of the new U.S. administration.
