Fog or Overcast: Weather Forecast for the Next 4 Days

The weather in the coming days is forecasted to be dry, with cloudiness expected from January 11-14. Precipitation is anticipated on January 15, in the form of snow in the mountainous and pre-mountainous areas. This information is provided by the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations’ Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center.

Today, fog is expected in Shirak, Aragatsotn, and Kotayk regions, with icy road conditions. Tomorrow, daytime temperatures will rise by 3-5 degrees. In Yerevan, from today until January 14, the weather is expected to remain dry, with precipitation predicted on January 15. Today’s daytime temperatures will range from -1 to +1 degrees Celsius, while evening temperatures will register between 0 and +2 degrees.

The Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center posted on Facebook: “In the winter months, thermal inversions are observed in Armenia's inter-mountain valleys, especially in the Shirak and Ararat plains, accompanied by low-level cloudiness and fog. Over the last two days, under the influence of a strong anticyclone operating in the republic, an inversion layer has emerged at altitudes of 1500-2000m above sea level. This elevated inversion covers the Shirak and Aragatsotn regions, the Ararat plain with its pre-mountainous areas, and parts of Vayots Dzor.

With the presence of the inversion layer in the country, warm air currents continue to flow in from the southwest, resulting in the contact of cold and warm air currents, which has led to the condensation of water vapor. This is manifested as dense fog at altitudes of 1600-2000m and cloudiness at lower altitudes. Due to this phenomenon, there has also been a significant temperature difference between various settlements in the republic. For instance, as of 14:00 on January 10, the temperature in Kapan and Dilijan was +14…+15°C, while in Ashotzk it was -11°C.”
