Israel Launches Grenades Near UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon: UN

Israeli military personnel have launched four grenades from drones in Lebanon, directly near the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) personnel. This was reported by UNIFIL's press service.

“Yesterday morning, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched four grenades from drones near UNIFIL peacekeepers who were working to remove roadblocks that were restricting peacekeepers’ access to their positions near the ‘Blue Line’ (the Israel-Lebanon border),” the statement said.

One grenade was launched within 20 meters of UN peacekeepers and their vehicles, while the other three were approximately 100 meters away. According to the statement, the IDF had been informed in advance that work would be taking place in that area.

Last week, the UN Security Council extended UNIFIL's mandate until December 31, 2026, after which a reduction in personnel and withdrawal is to begin. United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon were established in 1978 to oversee the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon. Their mandate was later expanded in 2006 after the military conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
