In the whirlwind of changes occurring in our country, it is important to emphasize the significance of real independence: Khachatryan
President of Armenia Vahagn Khachatryan has sent a message on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia: "Dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia, 35 years ago, a decisive event marked the course of our modern history: the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR adopted the Declaration of Independence. With that decision, the idea of our statehood was restored after centuries, and we embarked on the path of independence.
The declaration was not only a legal document. It was a symbol of national will, unified goals, and a new future. It clarified our people's aspirations to build an independent and sovereign state, the full affirmation of which was realized through the referendum on September 21, 1991.
Today, remembering that historic day, we emphasize the ongoing power and value of the Declaration. It is a fundamental program for the development and establishment of our state, enshrining the commitments to establish democracy, uphold the rule of law, protect human rights, strengthen the army, and modernize education and the economy.
Today, in the multifaceted and radical whirlwind of changes occurring in our country and around us, it is more important than ever to highlight the significance of real independence and sovereignty. It is not merely a historical achievement, but a vital necessity that shapes our statehood, ensures the free and dignified life of our people, and serves as a solid foundation for our future. Independence is the result of our daily efforts, strategic choices, and responsibilities; it is a crucial path and choice that we must safeguard, strengthen, and pass on to future generations.
The declaration also serves as a reminder that independence is not a gift, but a daily responsibility: to strengthen state foundations, build a just and prosperous society, and pass it on to future generations.
Dear compatriots, I congratulate you on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia. May our state steadfastly walk the path of peace, security, and development," the message states.
