Papoyan on Prisoners and Missing Persons Held in Baku

The government is continuously addressing the issues of missing persons and prisoners. During this time, substantial work has been carried out, with many prisoners returned and clarity achieved regarding numerous missing persons. This was stated by the Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, in response to a question raised by residents of Artsakh regarding the situation following the resignation of the head of the National Security Service, Armen Abazyan, and the claim that no one is addressing the issues of missing persons and prisoners.

“In the peace agreement, which has been coordinated and is already in draft form, there is a specific clause regarding this matter. This means it is such an important issue that one of the clauses of the agreement specifically addresses it,” said Papoyan.

In response to a journalist's question about why the issue of Armenian prisoners unlawfully held in Baku is not included in the peace agreement, the Minister of Economy replied, “All issues are being addressed; we are in the process of resolving them. Just as we have previously returned our prisoners on various occasions, I assure you that work is ongoing, and we will also succeed with the remaining matters.”
