Russia Continues to Supply Oil and Oil Products to India Despite Threats

Russia continues to supply oil, coal, and oil products to India and sees potential for liquefied natural gas exports, announced Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov during a meeting of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission.

“We continue to supply fuel, including crude oil and oil products, thermal and coking coal. We see potential for the export of Russian liquefied natural gas,” he said.

Manturov noted that, in addition to direct supplies, joint investment projects are being implemented in Russia and India for the extraction and processing of hydrocarbons. “We expect to expand comprehensive cooperation in the peaceful nuclear sector, including based on the successful experience of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant construction project,” he added.

It should be recalled that earlier, the United States announced a 25% increase (up to 50%) in tariffs on imports from India concerning the purchase of Russian oil and oil products. US President Donald Trump criticized India for “always purchasing most of its military equipment from Russia” and “being the largest buyer of Russian energy resources along with China.” The Indian Ministry of External Affairs labeled the attacks on Russian oil imports by the US and the EU as ungrounded.

After negotiations in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump admitted that Washington would not impose import tariffs on Russia’s trade partners.
